How DNS propagation works
When you change a DNS record, the update does not reach every resolver instantly. Each resolver caches the previous value for the duration of the record's TTL (time to live). Once the TTL expires, the resolver fetches the new value from your authoritative nameserver. Propagation is therefore not a single event but a gradual process across thousands of resolvers worldwide. Checking major public resolvers gives a reliable signal of whether your change is spreading. A lower TTL set before making the change shortens the propagation window.
